Cycling around the lake with fantastic volcano views!

Cycle around Lago Llanquihue at your prefered pace. You start out of Puerto Varas and circle around the lake clockwise visiting Frutillar and Puerto Octay. The volcanoes always on sight you continue to Ensenada before finally finishing the loop in Puerto Varas. This is an scenic bike adventure with intermediate difficulty.

Your adventure starts at Gravel Travel in Puerto Varas, where you head north towards Frutillar. After a short ride you will see the beautiful volcanoes Osorno and Calbuco for the first time — they will accompany you on the journey for the next few days.

In Llanquihue you can stop for a coffee or simply enjoy the lakefront, with swans and seagulls gathered along the shore. The next kilometers roll gently up and down, passing beaches like Totoral, perfect for your picnic spot! The last kilometers into Frutillar Bajo showcase the German culture of the region, present here since the 19th century.

Frutillar Bajo welcomes you with the famous Teatro del Lago, Frutillar's iconic lakeside theater, and several restaurants and cafés. Relax at the Geothermal Biopools after an eventful day of cycling.

You continue heading north towards Puerto Octay on perfect roads, tracing the shoreline the whole way. Puerto Octay is a small town with some of the best views of the Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes. After that it's time to climb again, heading towards Las Cascadas and eventually Ensenada. You'll pass more lakeside stretches, then the waterfall at Las Cascadas, just a few kilometers off the main road. The landscape shifts here into a lush, rainforest-like stretch. A few more climbs and descents later, you arrive in Ensenada, where you can enjoy the local cuisine.

The last 45 kilometers back to Puerto Varas follow a dedicated cycling path, with stops at Playa Venado for a picnic or Laguna La Poza, where you can take a boat ride to spot local wildlife such as herons and maybe a huillín (southern river otter)!

After 160 kilometers, it's time to celebrate! The Vuelta al Lago is complete, and we will welcome you back at Gravel Travel with a smile!
